ODIN is pleased to be able to announce that National Grid selected our firm to design the Green Hydrogen Facility Expansion for the Town of Hempstead, NY. The project will be the largest green hydrogen blending projects in the eastern US and among the first in the Country.

National Grid, in partnership with the Town of Hempstead, NY, has announced a joint project to build one of the first and largest clean hydrogen projects in the country that will be the first step in decarbonizing gas distribution networks. The project located on Long Island will blend green hydrogen into the existing distribution system to heat approximately 800 homes and fuel 10 municipal vehicles.

In July, the project team selected ODIN to be the lead design consultant due to the capabilities and experience of the team they assembled.

An existing facility that was developed in 2009 by Hempstead and National Grid currently provides locally produced green hydrogen for vehicles and was way ahead of its time. The facility currently uses both local wind and solar power to produce all the hydrogen.

This new project will improve service and expand the existing facility, including the blending of green hydrogen and natural gas for heating homes and transportation at the same time. This green hydrogen will be safely injected into the utility’s distribution system as a clean energy source for customers adjacent to the facility.
