Expander Addition at Everett M&R Station 00027

Enbridge sought expertise to design a low-velocity bypass (Expander) at the inlet of Station 00027 located in Everett, MA, to capture any liquids from the pipeline before it passed through the facility’s metering and regulation equipment causing potential damage.

ODIN designed a low velocity 30” Expander for their 16” station inlet feed.  The larger diameter of the expander causes a reduction in gas velocity, allowing entrained liquids to drop out of the flow and collect at the bottom of the expander.  The design also included inlet, outlet, and bypass valves.

A bridle/sump assembly was also installed, as liquids fill the sump, which is equipped with level switches an alarm signal is provided to Enbridge’s RTU alerting gas control of the liquids present.  A second alarm also notifies them of a “high level” condition.  The expander also includes vents and a drain for blow-down and liquid removal.  The expander and associated equipment were supported by pile foundations designed by ODIN.

This project is commissioned and functions as desired.
