Greenville Utilities – LNG Peak Plant
The Greenville Utilities Commission (GUC) had experienced unprecedented growth in their system leading to the need for additional storage and vaporization capabilities at their LNG plant. ODIN was largely involved in the development of the GUC LNG facility in 1997 via an EPC contract and was again selected to engineer, procure, and construction manage a two phased expansion approach to meet GUC’s needs.
The Phase I Expansion included the addition of two additional 55,000-gallon LNG storage tanks and impoundment, a new three-room control building, which provided a larger control room, updated facilities for the plant operators, and a new heater room to house three additional water glycol heaters that would be added as part of the Phase II Expansion. A natural gas fueled stand-by generator was also added along with AC power upgrades for the new control building. SCADA and plant support systems were also upgraded, including HMI screens, fire and gas detection, ESDs, and security system upgrades.
The Phase II Expansion included two additional 55,000-gallon tanks bringing the total to six for the facility, remote LNG impoundment, an additional truck-offloading skid, expansion of the heating and vaporization system including a new shell and tube vaporizer, upgrades to the fire and gas detection systems, SCADA system upgrades, and expansion of the instrument air system.
In addition to engineering, procurement, and construction management, ODIN also supported the GUC via RFI’s, commissioning, and as-builts of the facility. The facility has been operating successfully in its current configuration since 2015.
