Philadelphia Gas Works Liquefaction System
New Liquefaction System
Liberty Energy Trust created a commercial arrangement with Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) to provide a new liquefaction system for their Passyunk Energy Center (PEC) LNG facility in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
LET had engaged ODIN to perform a 30% conceptual design for the 120,000 gallon/day liquefaction system. The system needed to initially address pretreatment of the natural gas feed removing CO2 and water prior to cryogenic cooling. Nitrogen was to be used as the cooling medium via a compression and expansion cycle. Liquefaction of the natural gas was to occur via indirect heat exchange in a cold box through heat transfer between the clean gas stream and the cryogenic nitrogen loop. The resulting cryogenic liquefied natural gas was to be stored in an existing 2-million-gallon tank on site. Power was planned to be interconnected with the 13.8 kV loop around the facility. Civil design needed to address many challenges as the planned location was on a previously manufactured gas plant site.
ODIN completed the 30% conceptual design and both the City of Philadelphia and PGW approved the project.
