Thankful For Natural Gas 2023
Tom Mumford, ODIN’s Business Development Director – (PJM/NYISO)

As many of you reading this already know, ODIN EPC, Inc is a leading engineering firm focused on the design, modernization and development of energy infrastructures primarily focused in the natural gas and LNG (liquid natural gas) marketplace.

As I was contemplating the blessing I have and what I am thankful for, I thought I would take the time to highlight some reasons people might express gratitude for natural gas. Giving thanks for natural gas involves recognizing and appreciating the benefits that plentiful, natural energy source brings to our lives and society:

  • Clean – Natural gas is a cleaner-burning fuel source compared to coal and oil. When burned, it produces fewer emissions of pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. Adding to this is the focus the industry has on reducing further emissions into the atmosphere.
  • Efficient – Natural gas is a highly efficient energy source. It has a high energy content and can be used for various applications, including heating, electricity generation, and transportation.
  • Versatility – Natural gas is a versatile fuel that can be used for a variety of purposes. It is commonly used for heating homes, cooking, and generating electricity. It is used as a feedstock for the production of various chemicals and materials.
  • Reliability – Natural gas is a reliable source of energy. It can be stored and transported easily through pipelines, ensuring a steady and consistent supply. Also, it can safely be stored as a liquid (LNG) for peak demands (peak shaving).
  • Security – Access to domestic natural gas resources contribute to energy security by reducing dependence on imported oil or gas from other countries as well as backing up the intermittency of solar and wind sources. Our own ODIN Secure keeps a focus on the resiliency of a wide variety of energy infrastructure installations.
  • Technology Advancement – Ongoing advancements in technology, such as improved extraction techniques and carbon recapture to name just a few, contribute to the efficient and responsible production of natural gas.

As we express thanks for natural gas, it’s crucial to balance appreciation with a commitment to responsible and sustainable practices in its production and use. That’s why ODIN spends much of its time and expertise working with utilities and midstream customers to develop improved ways to achieve these goals.
